IPods, Tiger to head up Apple report - Computer Hardware - Technology, Hardware and Equipment - Earnings

Apple's earnings are due out today and Wall Street analysts are looking for signs of increased Macintosh sales. Furthermore, they are looking for more support of the iPod "halo effect". This article references the data points from SG Cowen that were reported in yesterday's post.

An interesting quote from the article about Mac sales:

"Keith Bachman, of Banc of America Securities, said he expects Apple to report Macintosh shipments to rise between 26% and 28% over last year's 876,000 units."

A June 2005 survey of over 1400 households by the Wall Street firm S.G. Cowen & Co. provides further evidence of the so called iPod "halo" effect driving Macintosh hardware sales.

Apple current domestic market share is at 3.3% and is expected to increase to 3.7% by the end of 2005. Apple's 2006 market share should reach 4.2% and 6% by 2008.

According to this article, businesses are welcoming the news of the Intel switch. This is great news for Apple as it shows that growth in the enterprise space is likely. Mac's have always had a difficult time penetrating the enterprise market but the switch to Intel processors appears to be opening the door to more customers.

We all know that most enterprises and businesses choose to use Microsoft but this news may be one of the first signs that commercial clients are willing to part with Microsoft and make the Switch to a Mac. Combine this news with my previous post relating to Oracle and Cisco's acceptance of OS X and it's a trend that we all should keep our eyes on. It may be the beginning of Apple's growth beyond the creative professional space and may signal a shift in corporate IT and lead to a crossover to the Mac.

Furthermore, my post from yesterday points to an article that indicates that the Switch to Intel Will Lure Developers to OS X.

I've been saying for a while that I think Apple is about to see growth in the enterprise. Check out my post from May 13, 2005.
